Finding Your True Self Through Slow Living

This article will find you when you’re at a stage in life where you begin questioning the reality around you, regardless of your age. You’re starting to realize that there’s a part of you—your true self—that has its own likes, dislikes, comforts, beliefs, and lifestyle preferences. These may not always align with what your immediate surroundings expect, so you either suppress them or tuck them away in a safe corner within yourself, calling it "home." This inner "home" is why we crave a space where it’s just We, Our Self, and Our Higher Self

Now, let’s distinguish these three layers within us:

We: Who we think we are, whether or not our actions match our beliefs or feelings. It’s the mask or boundaries we place around our true self, revealing it only when we are alone.
Our Self: The true effect of our actions, the real us beneath all the layers and masks.
Higher Self: Who we are or could be when the "We" and the "Self" consistently align, leading to a state of being true to ourselves.

It often takes heartbreaks, failures, and misunderstandings before we start to realize that we might be part of the problem in any aspect of life. This discernment marks the beginning of the journey toward self-reflection.

After many such journeys of self-reflection, I reached a point where 30+ years of life and its routines became suffocating. It was a sign that my inner "home" needed decluttering to make space for something new, though I didn’t realize it at the time. I couldn’t go another day living the same life.

My Journey of escaping the Matrix

I left behind a 12-year corporate career with no clear plan, simply following my heart. A year later, slow living the journey of darkness to light was the key to escaping the matrix. This decision has brought me closer to my true self and significantly improved my mental health and well-being. In a society that glorifies busyness, slow living invites us to be present and mindful, reducing stress and anxiety. It allows us to reclaim our time and energy, reconnecting with our inner child selves and understanding that joy is in the simple pleasures of life.

Balancing Mindfulness with Financial Sustainability

While slow living offers profound benefits—such as reduced stress, enhanced mental clarity, and a deeper connection to our true selves—it’s equally important to address financial sustenance. Embracing a slower pace doesn’t mean abandoning financial responsibility; rather, it encourages us to find creative and sustainable ways to support ourselves while living more mindfully.

I want to share my journey into slow living because I believe it offers a powerful way to reclaim our lives from the pressures of modern society. By embracing a slower, more intentional pace, we can find greater peace, purpose, and connection with the universe. My hope is that by sharing how slow living has transformed my life, I can inspire others to take the first steps on this path—allowing them to break free from the cycle of constant busyness and discover a deeper, more fulfilling way of being.
